In the heart of the Arizona, Western lifestyle will come alive October 13th, 14th & 15th, 2006 at the 50th Annual Fort Verde Days in downtown Camp Verde, Arizona. Fort Verde Days is one of Arizona's premiere family experience combining an irresistible western atmosphere, history and fun.
Annual tradition will showcase the young women in Camp Verde as they compete for the title of Colonel's Daughter. It has been a Camp Verde tradition for more than four decades and this year marks the 46th annual Colonel's Daughter competition.
During this one day competition, your women ages 15 and older compete for the title of Colonel's Daughter by showcasing their talents of handling a horse and, though a series of questions presented by judges, their social skills. All the contestants dress in period clothing from the 1800s and are escorted all day during the competition by the Camp Verde Cavalry. They appear in the parade down Main Street, attend the official ceremony naming the Colonel's Daughter, and get to perform patterns on the Fort Verde State Park's parade grounds for the festival attendees.
Friday evening will feature the first round of the "Championship Bull Riding", part of the Proud American Tour beginning at 7pm.
Saturday's festivities will begin at 8am with the display of more than 70 arts, crafts and food vendors, the Annual Antique Show, an Art Show, a parade featuring more than seventy-five (75) entries, live entertainment all-day, kids carnival, kids' rodeo at 1:00 pm which includes stick horse race, sheep -calf- steer and Jr. Bull riding, the annual Fort Verde Days Auction (benefiting CV Parks & Recreation events & programs), and at 7pm the second "Championship" round of the bull-riding and a community dance with a full-service beer garden.
