Lara Petska has been named the 2006 Colonel's Daughter. She will be formally presented at the Colonel's Ball on Saturday, October 7 and ride in the Fort Verde Day Parade.
Lara Petska and Maggie Monroe competed for this year's title of Colonel's Daughter. They vied in horsemanship on the parade grounds at Fort Verde with the Camp Verde Cavalry as well as in poise and personality in period costumes. The Colonel's Daughter competition for Fort Verde Days dates back to 1960. It was based on an 1882 novel of the same name, which also inspired the gift of spurs given to the Colonel's Daughter every year by the Cavalry.
